Kids Are Worth A Million is a fundraising campaign designed to raise $1,000,000 to equip Carlsbad Unified District schools with state-of-the-art technology. Launched in January, 1997, Kids Are Worth A Million is gaining the support of the business and service community, as well as individual benefactors and local residents, through sponsorships, monetary contributions, and product donations. Why: Creating and maintaining technologically advanced computer facilities is essential to quality education. California is ranked well below the national average on education spending. Carlsbad's superintendent of schools and principals have stressed that currently the greatest need is to increase accessibility to computer technology at the city's schools. How: Through corporate, service club, and individual contributions, and seed money from the Carlsbad Educational Foundation, Kids Are Worth A Million is three-fourths of the way toward its $1,000,000 goal. Businesses and the community are involved on all levels to raise awareness of the need for better technology in our schools. Corporations, local merchants, service groups, civic organizations, and PTAs are pledging and donating funds and equipment, sponsoring fundraising events and devoting proceeds to Kids Are Worth A Million. Kids Are Worth A Million facilitates the business of its partners for mutual benefit, with support from a public relations firm, excellent media coverage, and access to thousands of businesses and homes. Who: Kids Are Worth A Million is supported by former California Governor Pete Wilson, California legislators, Carlsbad City Council, and the Carlsbad School Board of Trustees. All ten Carlsbad Unified Schools will benefit from the campaign.
